The G Band Software Engineering PracticeLead is based within the Digital job family
The Software Engineering Practice lead isresponsible for owning, leading, and driving software engineering practicesacross all of Vodafone’s digital experience delivery teams.
This role isresponsible for providing expert knowledge of prototype creation, module andsolution design and development using agile methodologies, and continuoustesting to enable target business capabilities / user journeys.
This role willbe required to create, lead, manage, and mentor a practice of SoftwareEngineers across the delivery organization, ensuring the development andmaintenance of highly skilled and motivated practice members.
You will also expected to be a DevOps team member, spending30-50% of thetime on practice activities.
Yourresponsibilities will include :
Leads a community of Software Engineers that areworking in multiple DevOps Teams, working with Digital Experience Engineeringto provide workforce plans for recruitment and development.
Organises interactions between the members of thePractice to nurture best practice and encourage knowledge- & tool-sharing
Act as supporting leader, rather than line manager,aiming at maturing the organisation readiness, vs. controlling the work
Provides guidance and harmonization ofbest-practices on agile methodologies and practices to ensure smoothcommunication and collaboration
Acts as a mentor for the Specialist resources intheir Practice, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas
Agile and lean programming and development ofsoftware systems in Web-scale environments
Backlog item estimation
Software Design and architectures
Architectural element testing e.g. APIs
Unit, integration, smoke and static code analysis testing
Code standards and reviews
Automated testing and tools e.g. Selenium
Software incident and problem management
Continuous integration and continuous deliverymethodologies and tools
Competent working with cloud-native architectures,including public cloud PaaS / IaaS, micro-services architectures, APIs, OpenSource
oriented-, even-driven-, procedural-, functional-,and declarative programming
Expertise in multiple relational and non-relationaldatabases (Oracle, My Sql, Hadoop Spark / Storm, Cassandra)
Extremely valued as a thought partner across allteams and viewed as an invaluable role model for peers
The idealcandidate for this role will have :
Master’s or Bachelor’sDegree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, orother related field
Seven or more years of workexperience in programming and / or systems analysis applying agile frameworks
At least three yearsof software engineering leadership responsibilities in large deliveryorganizations
Experience working incloud-native environments
Professionalexperience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry preferred
Certified ScrumDeveloper (CSD) preferred
The base location for this role is Vodacom Midrand
