Purpose of the Job
Assist the qualified Electricians with installations, maintenance and repairs to electrical systems in multiple environments.
Assistance to the qualified electrician to make sure that electrical systems are safe and running efficiently and the assistance in the repair of defective electrical equipment.
To assist the qualified electrician with the installation and testing of new equipment and systems during construction and the assistance in the repair and maintenance of older, pre-existing systems.
Outputs to be delivered
Colour Vision : Electrician’s Assistants will assist with coloured wiring and must be able to identify them by sight.
Troubleshooting : To assist the Electrician with root cause findings and must be able to think logically around solutions.
Customer Service : The assistant will work for different customers and must be friendly and professional when working on site.
Critical Thinking : With the assistance of the Electrician, the assistant must be able to think critically when doing diagnostics.
Mechanical Skills : Must have basic mechanical skills as he will assist the electrician with the use of applicable tools and devices to service and install electrical equipment.
Ability to assist the electricians with the use of appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace and test 1000 volt and below electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.
Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures.
Ability to assist with the installation and maintenance of Motors, Welding Equipment, lighting Fixtures, Generators, Circuit Breakers and Transformers as appropriate to the position.
Ability to assist with the isolation of defective wiring, switches and other electrical equipment.
Tasks to be preformed
Fuel Dispenser power connection and disconnection.
Connection of Dispensers in DB.
Connection of Hook Signals.
Wiring of DB’s, F / C’s, Key switches, ATG, Contactors.
Tracing of faults on DB’s and Contactors.
Replacements of PMA’s.
Fault findings of DB’s and STP’s.
Earthing on DB / ATG / Dispensers.
Tracing floating neutrals and resolving.
Installations of Pedestals and powering Pedestal units.
Installation of UPS’s and connections.
Repairs to shop trunking power rails.
General Electrical repairs.
After hour call outs when needed.
Wring up and built up of complete STP units.
Repairs / replacement of single and three phase PMA Motors.
Wiring up and fault finding of Smart Controllers.
Assist with pump maintenance if needed.
Assist with Automation calls when needed.
Assist with ATG calls when needed.
Assist the Civils Teams when needed.
Assist the workshop when needed.
Assist with Calibrations and Preventative Maintenance when needed.
To learn and assist with maintenance of Forecourt Controllers
To learn and assist with maintenance of Tagging Equipment
To learn and assist with Pump / Dispenser Maintenance
Must have Fire Fighting and First Aid certification (Must be obtained within 3 months of date of hire).
NQF Level N3 or High School Matric
Personal Attributes required
Well-spoken and fluent in English (being fluent in additional South African languages would be beneficial.
