Job Description FOOD SCIENTIST

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Food Scientist, to be based
at McCain Head Office in Bedfordview. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Food Technologist.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB :
New product development : for Vegetables, Potato and Value Added
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS :
Concept / Recipe formulation, kitchen sample preparation and sample matching.
Responsible for in-house sensory evaluations for new product concepts, data
analysis and reports.
Responsible for providing product attributes and specification to supply chain department for sourcing new / alternative ingredients for application in existing products and / or new products in development.
Testing of new and / or alternative ingredients for approval.
Liaise and interact with ingredient suppliers for any new raw material requirements.
Compile Specifications : customer specification, raw material specification, ingredient specification, bulk veg specification, import onboarding packs and final product specification according to McCain KEQ policy standards.
Creat and maintain a technical specification database which contains information on each product's formulation, process flow, allergens, nutritional analysis, chemical and microbiological composition, shelf life, etc.
Publication of all signed off specifications and other relevant supplier
documentation (technical) on the quality intranet for audit purposes.
Compile ingredient declarations and nutritional information for new or existing
change in formulation) products. Determine and compile preparation methods
for new products.
Check legislation for new products and ensuring that they comply with the labeling regulation. Ensure regulatory requirements are met and understood across all functions to ensure total compliance of "the company" products.
Be aware of upcoming legislation, to ensure the "company" remains ahead (Local & Global). Sign off all packaging labels with serious attention to detail.
Legal artwork packaging checks and approvals in accordance with trade metrology
Assist with factory trials for new products
NPD product quality assesssments : Conduct product audits for newly launched products that are in the trade.
Responsible for courier of samples to customers, to external laboratory for nutritional analysis, etc.
Relevant qualification, Degree / Diploma
Minimum 2 year experience within FMCG with proven track record
Flair for food and food preparation
Microsoft Office (Power Point, Excel, and Word)
Valid SA drivers License
Proactive, self-motivated a goal orientated, attentive to detail
Anticipating and driving change
High levels of initiative
