Traffic Manager - Cobalt - SandtonIntroductionMy client is a global merchant in base and precious metals, headquartered in Europe with expert teams on every continent.

They are urgently looking for a Cobalt Traffic Manager to join their growing team based in Sandton Role Purpose : Responsible for all Traffic activities related to cobalt products in Southern Africa, including all inland and export flows, customer interaction, business partnership, process improvement, compliance, shipment execution, performance management, people management and budget management.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesMain ResponsibilitiesTeam supervision : Responsible for all aspects of team management including : hiring (directly or through final decision making on the selected candidates), objectives setting and performance management, training and development.

Allocates resources and distributes tasks based on employees’ skills levels and development needs. Manages the development and sharing of best practices and fosters continuous improvement efforts.

Traffic Tasks - Supervises the trade execution and fulfillment of contractual terms across trade to cash cycle. Main duties will be to : Manage the physical movement of cobalt and interact daily with various stakeholders involved in the logistics chain (truck transportation companies, warehouse operators, container shipping lines, freight forwarders, surveyors, agents etc.

to ensure smooth operationsMonitor sources of risk and take appropriate decisionsEnsure customer service excellenceProvide technical expertiseProvide timely feedback to assist in development of team membersContribute to projectsContinuously strive at improving the current way of workingHandles traffic related tasks and files directly as necessary and is an escalation point for contract terms, logistics, warehousing, etc.

Develops a mid-term plan for execution in terms of process and flows optimization, resource development, IT evolutions, etc.

Sets and monitors KPIs on a regular basis.Identifies opportunities to generate additional profits and discusses and challenges new business / destination.

Becomes fully proficient in The Company’s front system in a reasonable time. Drives the full utilization of the system by team members and supports additional improvements.

Support the ambitious growth strategy and business evolution of the cobalt product line. Contribute towards improved margins by constantly reviewing our logistical chains for value and reliability.

Provide expert guidance and advice to company leadership team on all aspects of the supply chain function.Support the Trading teams in all the operational aspects of the trades.

Plan, implement and control the operations of the supply chain from point-of-origin to the point of delivery to customer.

  • To drive the performance management and objective settings process within the department.Desired Experience & QualificationEducation, Skills and ExperienceMinimum 7 years’
  • experience in a traffic, logistics or similar role within the metals or commodities industryExperience of managing / supervising a team.

  • Excellent knowledge of the product / region to be supervisedExcellent level of verbal and written communication skills in EnglishStrong numerical and IT literacy including Microsoft Office products and commodities front office systemsAbility to be flexible and work under pressure to meet deadlinesBachelor’
