    The main purpose of this role is to assist in the processing of new and renewal business within the South Africa team. You are expected to manage quality underwriting encompassing referrals as well as obtaining, growing and adhering to underwriting authority.

    They will be responsible for ensuring underwriting excellence in accordance with Chubb guidelines.

    The role requires regular engagement and reporting to local and regional product line management on strategy, financials and portfolio integrity.

    It also requires interaction and teamwork with various support functions such as operations, claims, finance, legal & compliance and marketing.

    You will be dedicated, ambitious, have be able to work independently with a can-do’ attitude. We require someone with a deep commitment to building technical expertise as well as broker relationships and outstanding service.

    Based in Johannesburg, reporting to local Casualty Management with a matrix reporting line in the regional product line manager.

    This role will require you to travel both within South Africa and internationally.

    We prefer applicants with relevant Casualty experience with necessary technical and broader business skills. Initially, under supervision, you will need to ensure underwriting is done according to defined underwriting guidelines and best practices before they can attain authority within a quick timeframe.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist with management and development of the portfolio, market profile and producer relationships. This involves regular portfolio monitoring, liaison with brokers and / or clients and collaboration with business development resources.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting and policy records within agreed underwriting procedures and standard methodologies.
  • Work within the framework of Chubb ethical, compliance, underwriting policies and service standards.
  • Focus on retention of business and new business development objectives without compromising underwriting discipline.
  • Give to meeting the production and underwriting margin financial objectives and business plans.
  • Is service orientated to both internal and external customers.
  • Embody Chubb values in all aspects of the job.
  • Qualifications

    Knowledge & Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Qualifications : Commerce Degree or relevant Underwriting experience
  • Industry related qualification (AIISA or similar) is advantageous / or keen to embark on, or working towards completion of the AIISA
  • Good communication & negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Encouraged to undertake on the job training
  • Employment Equity candidates will be considered
  • Proficient English language skills
  • Casualty Lines underwriting experience required
  • Ambitious with the ability to make decisions and work on one’s own initiative.
  • Social capital within the industry is desirable as we source broker produced business.
  • FAIS accredited representative having completed regulatory qualifications is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of Casualty underwriting.
