ABOUT ALA

African Leadership Academy (ALA) seeks to transform Africa by identifying, developing, and connecting its future leaders.

The Academy was founded on the philosophy that a new generation of ethical, committed leaders is the key to Africa’s development.

ALA seeks to become the training ground for these future leaders. Each year, ALA draws the most outstanding students from across Africa to its campus in South Africa.

Here, they build a powerful intellectual foundation and develop their leadership capacity through ALA’s unique curriculum.

ALA then works with these young leaders throughout their lives as they enable lasting positive change on the African continent.

THE ROLE :

The African Studies Department is looking for an experienced educator to lead curriculum co-ordination and development within the Humanities and Social Sciences.

The department seeks a senior faculty member who will inspire our students to become Africanists, support colleagues to develop their practice as they facilitate teaching and learning and identify and pursue opportunities for interdepartmental cooperation.

The African Studies department takes interdisciplinary approach to the Humanities and Social Sciences, fostering students’ ability to understand the continent’s challenges and opportunities from an African perspective.

Focusing on developing research skills, we believe it as essential that students gain knowledge about Africa and understand how Africa’s past has shaped its present as they develop their own visions of Africa’s future.

Expected Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of passionate African Studies faculty to define the future of this core programme.
  • Work with faculty and department heads to enable a world-leading curriculum and improve interdisciplinary links.
  • Lead engaging courses six days per week (Monday-Saturday) for exceptional students from across Africa.
  • Contribute to holistic student life as a faculty advisor, coach of a team or activity, and tutor on duty.
