To plan and implement the control of raw materials intake through implementation of good housekeeping practices whilst adhering to internal production goals and standards as well as external quality and food safety standards and legislation.

To assist the Silo Manager with the intake and storing of grain as well as ensuring a continuous flow of high-quality product to all processing facilities according to acceptable quality standards and processes.

To act as the Silo Manager, as and when requested by the Production Manager, in the absence of the Silo Manager. Receiving of Raw Materials

  • Ensure compliance with minimum standards of raw materials received.
  • Every load to be tested according to grading standards of specific raw material.
  • Ensure that every truck is weighed before and after offloading. Manage any differences in weighted and offloaded material and report immediately.
  • Manage any deviation in raw material and report immediately to the Silo Manager. If the Silo Manager is not available, report directly to the Production Manager.
  • Ensure visual inspection of each truck is done and unacceptable conditions reported by Silo Worker.
  • Manage any unacceptable conditions reported by Silo Workers after visual inspection of each truck by reporting it to the Silo Manager or the Production Manager in the absence of the Silo Manager.
  • Assist the Silo Manager to ensure that enough vehicles are available to transport grain from producer to silos *Process Control*
  • Ensure the proper functioning of all equipment and report defects and faults immediately to Silo Manager.
  • Continuously monitor all machinery settings to minimise spillage due to incorrect settings.
  • Report incorrect settings to Silo Manager who will manage the settings.
  • Immediately respond to faults identified and report to the Silo Manager.
  • Continually ensure aspiration settings is set according to the type of raw material and tonnage *Report any defects or irregularities.*
  • Ensure that all processes are in line with ISO Standards and the Company Safety Policy.
  • Maintain maximum / optimum intake capacity for every load.
  • Assist the Silo Manager by checking and controlling that routine maintenance are done and any repairs are reported by Silo Staff.
  • Storage* Assist with managing the process to ensure that the correct raw material is placed in the correct silo. Assist with managing the process to ensure that the correct raw material is transferred to the correct day bin.
  • Ensure that the different types of screenings are differentiated and identified and weighed on a daily basis. Report any defects immediately to the Silo Manager.

    Check if all screenings removed have been packed neatly and protected against adverse weather. Ensure that the screening and labelling of pellets are correct and move to appropriate department.

    Oversee and ensure that daily reporting of stock levels on SharePoint are done by no later than 09h00 every day. *Quality Control*

  • Timeously study, record and manage test results in order to ensure conformance to quality standards.
  • Report any non-conformances immediately.
  • Ensure that the proper functioning of all lab equipment is monitored weekly.
  • Ensure all checks are done and recorded when changing between gluten and non-gluten products.
  • Ensure that proper fumigation off all facilities are conducted within the prescribed limits and timeframes and that proper processes and procedures are followed.
  • Assist with managing silo levels and stock rotation. *Logistics and Staff Management*
  • Assist the Silo Manager to manage staff to provide 24 / 7 / 365 operations.
  • Assist the Silo Manager to manage the work environment within the Silos using a positive, proactive demeanour, ensuring it remains safe and results in superior teamwork, mentoring, and collaboration with team members while demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
  • Work with Silo Manager to lead the plant in work force planning, sourcing and talent development to foster a high performing team. *Health and Safety*
  • Take reasonable care for own health and safety as well as the health and safety of others
  • Attend annual and required medical tests in order to ensure they are declared fit for physical performance
  • Wear the correct PPE in accordance with the company policy and procedures
  • No interference or abuse of any health, safety and environmental welfare equipment.
  • Be actively involved in the OHS System, partake in OHS activities as and when directed
  • Keep work areas clean and free from hazards and risks
  • Ability to understand and follow safety measures
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements, standards, company systems, procedures and policies are met in all actions on company premises.
  • Be actively involved to protect and improve performance of the OHS system, support the OHS system and partake in OHS activities, such as OHS meetings, safety days, training, investigations (where applicable), risk assessments, simulations, job observations, drills and exercises.
  • Provide leadership and direction by helping sub ordinates ensure compliance in all quality, food safety, occupational health and safety and environmental systems, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and monitor required documentation in accordance to quality, food safety, occupational health and safety and environmental systems, policies and procedure requirements.
  • Addressing and correcting inappropriate behaviours, actions and decisions trough disciplinary action.
  • Access health and safety risks and ensure mitigating controls are in place
  • Ensure and monitor effective maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • Ensure no unsafe work is permitted without the relevant safety work permits obtained *People Management*
  • Trains and coaches staff into correct application and adherence to standard operating procedures and process specifications.
  • Monitor food safety and ISO processes according to standard.
  • Takes appropriate disciplinary action according to company procedures.
  • Monitor people attendance, overtime and productivity levels as per manager instruction.
  • Identify who works at which workstation.
  • Must be aware of each persons whereabouts all day long.
  • Partakes in the Performance Measurement Process of all the reporting staff *Maintenance*
  • Report repairs to maintenance department and follow up until completion.
  • Ensure all silo maintenance documents are completed.
  • Ensures that equipment is maintained according to required standards. *Team Work*
  • Actively participate as a member of the team
  • Performing any other task, not specified herein, which from time to time may be assigned by the manager
  • At least 5 years extensive experience in the silo environment.
  • Grade 12
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Grain Grader Qualification
  • Microsoft Suite Computer Literacy
  • Relevant experience in HACCP, Logistics and OHS Act.
  • A Valid Fumigation P Number
  • Relevant Experience to resolve any disputes logged
