Purpose of the job

Technical management of assigned projects and allocated team from design, through handover to production and final product testing / acceptance stages, while observing the need for cost effective solutions and ensuring department and product costs are controlled within budget.

Main responsibilities

  • Instruct, direct, motivate, supervise and monitor the performance of the allocated team
  • Identification and review of resource (including recruitment) and training requirements
  • Management of all engineering and support activities for Retrofit, Re-engineering and Field Engineering, including pre-sales support and arranging specialist support when required.
  • Manage engineering projects effectively (cost / time / resource) to ensure timely release to Operations and successful Project completion.
  • Management of Departmental budget (overhead, etc)
  • Liaison & collaboration with other Engineering Department heads within EMEA Region to share best practice & work-load
  • Review and maintenance of local Departmental Procedures & Working Practices to keep these current and in accordance with relevant local requirements (eg ISO 9001).
  • Attend Kick-off, Client and Operational review meetings, as required, to ensure full understanding of the work to be undertaken and to assist in effective planning of key Project Milestones.
  • Oversee and control preparation and issue of calculations, drawings, BOMs, specifications for factored equipment (e.g. motors, seals), etc.
  • to satisfy Project technical requirements.

  • Oversee the certification of all drawings and technical data (including vendor drawings and data) issued to the customer
  • Provide support, as required, to other departments (e.g. Service and Warranty) as required on engineering issues associated with the product range.
  • Prepare monthly performance reports as required
  • Participate in review of non-conformance reports, warranties, etc., to identify trends and act to eliminate root causes
  • Oversee introduction of new / revised products & processes into production, ensuring technical compliance with latest design / statutory requirements.
  • Proactively engage and support company initiatives designed to promote a culture of safe working, environmental protection and continual improvement.
  • Participate and actively support Company initiatives (eg LEAN), overseeing the introduction of new / updated corporate tools and processes to the Dept
  • Be familiar with environmental aspects and impacts of the activities and processes involved in the role and the procedures, practices and measures to be taken to manage the impact.
  • Be familiar with the risks and hazards within the activities and processes of the role and procedures, practices and measures in place to mitigate the risks.
  • Qualifications and Experience :

    Mechanical Engineering Degree / Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering - Masters'' Degree or MBA preferred

    Pump design experience, including upgrade / re-rate of pumps

    Knowledge of relevant industry practices and standards

    Experience of Engineering Project Management

    Budget Management

    Design & draughting Skills

    CAD skills

    General MS Office computer skills

    ECSA registered

    Must have experience in a sales / service support role / environment

    Customer centric attitude

    Strong leadership

    This role is not design focussed

    Salary : +- R1.3 mill pa
