To be responsible for providing leadership and direction to all Plant Maintenance Personnel and Contractors who are responsible for maintenance and repair of locomotives / trains.

To lead a team that maintains, repairs and services locomotives that run through an assigned facility. This job is responsible for safely, effectively and efficiently providing services that each locomotive needs to transport goods and services on time and on budget to customers across the Country and abroad.

  • Develop and implement business loco requirements and manage allocation of Locos based on activities and operational requirements that align to company policies and procedures in order to promote safe, cost-effective and appropriate operation and usage of vehicles. As per ACAP
  • Maintainance of all Loco components and ensure effective spare parts availability at all times for all sites
  • Create, maintain and roll-out all maintenance procedures
  • Maintain electronic databases of failures, faults, inspections to ensure effective problem solving
  • Ensure fleet availability to meet all requests by scheduling and arranging operational staff timeously
  • Maintain knowledge and utilize all Loco information and user surveys to forecast new requirements.
  • Ensure proper Loc commissioning, and handover documentation
  • Manage daily Loco inspection, breakdown records and problem solving of technical problem
  • Oversee routine and ad hoc maintenance, create system job cards for the work to be done, and assess completion of tasks
  • Monitor and ensure locomotives and Workshop operation in compliance with the legislation.
  • Streamline and monitor purchase and consumption of fuel and monitor monthly
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance to customer, company and government standards and policies
  • Facilitate and implement corrective actions and capacity building to manage entire fleet to achieve company objectives.
  • Plan and prepare annual budget, expenditures and analyze all financial objectives.
  • Lead maintenance / technical teams effort to provide necessary, quality maintenance and repairs to locomotives that run through the assigned facility / sites
  • Establish and execute safety initiatives that make safety the highest of employee priorities, and that motivate employees to work in a safe, efficient manner
  • Manage team and workshop in compliance with budget allocations and constraints
  • Establish and execute measurement tools to track team productivity, and take appropriate actions to help team meet goals and objectives
  • Establish, administer and execute an effective communications program that engages shop employees and keeps stakeholders informed, as necessary, in an effort to reach company goals and objectives
  • Improve asset utilization by monitoring locomotive shut-down time, service track and shop cycle time, adherence to locomotive maintenance schedules, and switch engine fleet reliability and availability
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • A Technical / Engineering Bachelor''s degree or commensurate experience
  • Participation in the Operations Management Training or Field Service Management Training (OMT / FMT) program or 3 or more years of work experience
  • Project Management Course (Advantage)
  • Good Report Writing Skills and Presentations.
  • Must be able to work on weekends, evenings, public holidays
  • Valid driving license
