To report, measure and maintain the holistic Balance Sheet Management business process for the Africa Regions banking entities and Head Office by ensuring compliance to Standard Bank Group principles, country-specific regulations and international best practices to manage liquidity risk, interest rate risk in the banking book and optimize the balance sheet.

Job Purpose

To report, measure and maintain the holistic Balance Sheet Management business process for the Africa Regions banking entities and Head Office by ensuring compliance to Standard Bank Group principles, country-specific regulations and international best practices to manage liquidity risk, interest rate risk in the banking book and optimize the balance sheet.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Financial Management

  • Measure and review metrics for monthly reporting and review FTP reports ensuring threshold limits are within acceptable ranges, balances sheet hygiene is maintained and anomalies are communicated to AR resources for resolution.
  • Review and confirm validity of AR stress testing scenario's and results for appropriateness in preparation for inclusion in Board presentations.
  • Measure, report and manage the outcomes of each measure of liquidity and Interest Rate Risk in the banking book (IRRBB) to the Asset and Liability Management (ALM) committee in accordance with set policies and procedures.
  • Support AR Treasury and Capital Management (TCM) teams to conduct and review balance sheet metrics including but not limited to pipeline analysis, assess funding requirements.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including country teams, Group Market Risk and Global Markets to calculate and assess the viability of ALM metrics.

  • Input and analyse capital management data into the applicable financial systems to ensure all capital management data is up to date and accurate to comply with SARB capital management reporting requirements.
  • Assist in FTP rate calibrations (Curves, profiles, country specific rates) and review of FTP results
  • Review funding centre positions across AR with insights from country TCM teams and report to country and AR ALCO’s
  • Data

  • Collate information to support the AR Treasury and Capital Management (TQM) teams in drafting presentations for AR ALM committee meetings.
  • Validate ALM models to ensure accuracy, integrity and relevance of model data and correct potential modelling errors to manage interest rate risk and liquidity risk.
  • Research and evaluate AR country dynamics and regulatory environment ensuring alignment to international ALM best practise.

  • Collate and load AR capital management metrics into relevant applications for inclusion in Group Capital Management consolidated reporting as required by the SARB.
  • Verify AR stress testing model is fully functional ensuring model formula calculate and data is input appropriately to ensure the validity of the model.
  • Escalate model errors to model designers and addressing queries from AR resources.

  • Support and review the FTP calculation for AR together with system maintenance and enhancements responsibility to ensure that it is fit for purpose and relevant to business requirements.
  • Licence to Operate

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of regulatory returns, pertaining to Balance Sheet Management, ensuring compliance to AR and SARB regulations.
  • Provide support to AR Treasury and Capital Management teams with the consolidation and analyses of AR Basel 3 ratios, namely Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) and Net Stable Funding Ratio (NSFR) for consolidation into the SBG's regulatory returns ensuring the SBG is complaint with SARB regulatory reporting requirements.

    Risk, Regulatory, Prudential & Compliance

  • Report on and escalate liquidity limit and appetite breaches to appropriate internal team as outlined in the Risk policy within the prescribed time frames to manage balance sheet risk.
  • Ensure that funding centre positions are discussed appropriately at country ALCO’s as well as AR ALCO
  • Align to SBG's policies and risk appetite frameworks as well as regulatory and international best practice to ensure the execution of tactical and strategic Asset and Liability Management responsibilities.
  • Technology & Architecture

  • Partner with the Quantitative Risk Management (QRM) systems team to enhance balance sheet reporting with an emphasis on enhancing forward-looking balance sheet reports.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage the QRM system capabilities to automate reports and processes including regulatory returns in order to streamline the regulatory reporting process.

    Work with ALM to assess QRM capabilities to leverage off profiling used for FTP calibrations

  • Support senior team members to train AR resources on applicable ALM systems and SAP financial management modules to develop AR systems capability.
  • Minimum Qualification and Experience

  • 5-7 years Banking experience having worked on financial statements with sound excel modelling and analyses experience.
  • Experience with engaging middle to senior management level and managing disparate deadlines and stakeholders both with SA and ARs.
