Educational qualifications / Work experience

  • Matric
  • Legal / Law degree or equivalent
  • Preferably an Admitted Attorney
  • Must at least have completed period of articles and / or have passed the admission exams
  • Must at least have worked in attorney’s office or in a similar environment for a period of at least one (1) year.
  • Key Performance Areas

  • Ensure administration of all delegated curatorship matters;
  • Identify and verify client details and contact information and communicate appropriately and effectively with clients and notify them of the availability of their files for collection;
  • Ensure that instructions are issued to sheriff’s office promptly after the curatorship court order is obtained;
  • Ensure that all stakeholders are notified in line with processes and procedures;
  • Ensure compilation of inventories / lists of files and or other documents promptly;
  • Peruse, study and analyse all the files and file matters and contents for determination of required steps or actions;
  • Supervise and guide the administrative and secretarial personnel in their daily duties;
  • Complete the necessary matter report templates and overall report templates periodically.
  • Sort the files and other documents in proper matter and number order for ease of identification, under the guidance and supervision of the Legal Officer;
  • Ensure capturing and storage of all relevant and important data and information;
  • Arrange an appropriate filing system and process;
  • Do the filing and retrieval of files from the filing system;
  • Prepare the inventory / file listing and / or update it frequently;
  • Ensure scanning and copying of files or certain parts or contents of files where necessary;
  • Ensure completion of all the standard templates and other documents prior to and at the point of the hand-over of the files to correct persons;
  • Ensure proper identification and confirmation and recording of the identity of people to whom files are handed;
  • Undertake distribution of the files to correct parties, under supervision and control of the Legal Officer.
  • Technical and Behavioural Competencies

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle driver’s licence.
  • Functional skills Broad working knowledge of various areas of practice, including in particular :
  • High Court and Magistrates Court practice.
  • RAF claims practice, specifically the procedures and the time limits stipulated in the statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of accounting requirements and duties and various internal control processes required to be implemented in an attorney’s practice.
  • Self-management skills Ability to plan work and manage time effectively.
  • Interpersonal skills Good communication skills and ability to interact at all levels.
  • Requirements of the corporate culture Focus on compliance, risk management and respect for the rule of law and the bills of rights.
  • Must have good working and practical computer knowledge and skills.
  • Must be proficient in typing, filing and general file and office management skills.
