Finance : budgeting and forecasting, creating interim and annual financial statements, facilitating internal mergers and acquisitions, as well as dealing with analysts and investors.
Job Purpose
To provide reactive and pro-active insights into Retail & Business Banking customers to influence business strategy and optimise the performance around the customer value chain.
Financial modelling and data analytics for business cases and for an in depth understanding of the portfolio are key requirements both at a Retail and Business Banking level and across areas and business centres within the province.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Financial and Business Insights
Understand the key drivers that inform the provincial financial results as well as the corresponding leading indicators.
Identify and establish the relevant levers necessary to influence customer profitability in line with the RBB strategy and provincial storyline.
Provide recommendations to optimise key metrics such as operating Income, ROE, impairments, and cost to Income ratio based on empirical data.
Use both internal as well as external data and modelling techniques to building financial models that will provide business insight necessary for effective decision making.
These will include (but not limited to) : o
Utilisation of these financial models to optimise campaigns, enhance value propositions, determine optimal resources required in certain markets, inform branch profitability and optimal operational hours;
inform markets we should be exiting or entering into, establish the optimal channel mix between digital, ATM and branch channels e.t.c.
Highlight key trends, patterns or opportunities to drive superior earnings.
Partner with Measurement in the production of regular key measure
Partner with the provincial data manager in the journey to remediate data quality and completeness.

Assist with the end-to-end process of ad hoc business unit requests placed to the Head, Finance Retail & Business Banking
Enable the data sourcing, analysis and reporting on any strategic projects / initiatives as defined by Business Unit head e.
g. assisting in the implementation and measurement of Ecosystems, Enterprise Direct, China Africa Banking, etc
Measures :
Adheres to ad hoc reporting format and standards as required by the Retail & Business portfolio.
Assist with the design and development of the solution after analysis and discussion with other key stakeholders and assists with driving the delivery of the solution or report to business.
Effective story telling using data and ability to communicate outcomes in a PowerPoint format / info graphics / excel etc..
Defines, scopes, and owns tasks / projects of a high complexity on an independent basis against business deliverables.
Assist with all ad hoc requests through their life cycle.
Understands the interdependencies between people, systems and business.
Based on the understanding of the solution or report delivered, attempts to negotiate and influences business with the assistance of the Head of finance in the province.
Management accounts / Monthly reporting (PMT, FMT and Sales Tracker)
Preparation of area, business centre, branch and AE level monthly financial reports with the relevant segmentation as necessary;
Appropriate commentary for weekly leading indicator analysis for retail and business banking, graphic representations and analysis to provide insights and understanding towards emerging trends observed.

Ability to explain the reports to stakeholders in line with a deep understanding of the data sources and business rules used in generating the reports

Ability to sign off on the quality of the reports as part of the month-end process based on understanding the expected views for the business unit / Province
Governance
Ensures adherence to governance standards defined within Measurement in order to minimise duplication whilst standardising processes.
Consolidates FAIS reports regarding Training Data, Exam Data and Qualification Data (who has qualification and who has been enrolled on a learnership) for provincial Key Individual’s are compiled.
Keeps abreast of any future legislative and regulatory requirements that may impact measurement.
Understand and comply with relevant policies, regulations and standard operating procedures.
Understand and operate within defined standard operating procedures, internal processes, and policies. For example, adheres to the designated process for requesting data from MIS and measurement teams.

General
Ensures appropriate reporting using a standard format that is easily understood by business.
Enhances the understanding of reported information through the use of standard definitions to be easily understood across all reporting formats.
Ensures that problems in reporting or gaps in information are identified and together with the provincial data manager resolve.
Extracts, collates and performs analysis of financial information from various sources and systems and reports on key business requirements.
Optimises and streamlines existing procedures and system interactions to ensure improved turnaround time.
Provides input to Retail and Business Banking to support the budget setting and forecasting processes.
Gains knowledge and experience from area (including branches) and business centres in order to corroborate internal data with practical and observed input.
Distributes insights / management information periodically (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually) through a structured reporting process to support business decision-making at the functional unit level.
Proactively drives solutions for better business understanding.
Assist with ad hoc requests from Product, Channel and other business partners.
Delivery of financial and management reports of good quality, within agreed timelines that integrate key drivers across all areas, business centres, branches and segments;

Experience
5-7 Years Previous experience in working with customer and account level data across various products in a banking industry.
Experience in working with SQL, writing SQL queries, developing BI reports and data mapping. Experience in working in a team which involves receiving input and delivering to multiple stakeholders.
Experience in data analytics and generation of actionable insights in line with a sound understanding of leading and lagging measures required to drive outcomes.
