Who we are

DataEQ is a data technology business on a mission to improve how big businesses serve their customers. We do this by helping them find, analyse and prioritise their most important customer interactions.

Founded in South Africa and headquartered in London, we currently support enterprise clients across four continents.

Why this job is exciting

We're looking for a People Lead to support our expansion by guiding us towards an employee experience and people infrastructure that will help us attract and retain the best talent.

As a fully remote company, you'll get the chance to not only work remotely yourself but inform progressive people practices that help our teams feel connected and supported in developing their careers and doing their best work as they work from remote locations.

The scope of the role includes :

Enabling the performance of our managers by guiding their thinking in the people decisions they make for their teams, providing guidance and insights to the leadership team to help them make better decisions for the business, and ensuring we have the right thinking and structures in place across how we hire, onboard, develop, compensate, reward and retain our talent.

As DataEQ's People Lead, you can expect a high degree of autonomy, with direct support from our operations team and close engagement with the CEO and leadership team.

It's a fantastic opportunity for an HR professional with exposure to all things HR, to build out the people function they've always envisioned, in a company like ours.

In this role you'll guide the thinking and implementation, so we're looking for someone who can strategize and influence, but isn't afraid to do the work themselves too.

Within one month you will :

  • Have completed your tailored onboarding process and understand what this process looks like for other parts of the business
  • Spent time with the CEO and leadership team to understand DataEQ's business strategy, and get their input on how they see the people function supporting that strategy
  • Have formed relationships with each of the company's line managers and understand their team functions, challenges and opportunities
  • Have taken ownership of our hiring and employer brand, made any necessary adjustments to ensure we're sourcing in the right places and in the right ways, and be working with managers to build up a pipeline of talent
  • Get up to speed with all DataEQ guidelines, benefits and ways of working
  • Within two months you will :

  • Have implemented a hiring lifecycle that creates a top-notch candidate experience, have helped us proactively identify and attract quality passive candidates, and implemented a structured cadence for involving and updating hiring managers
  • Within three months you will :

  • Have a clear sense of how you contribute to the success of our business and our managers
  • Be making progress towards your people strategy and goals, with the support of the operations team and with regular guidance and input from the leadership team
  • Be autonomously coaching managers on their people strategies and day-to-day people challenges and opportunities
  • Understand the level of impact of each person on the team and ensure they are compensated accordingly while advocating necessary balance, downtime, and rest
  • Within six months you will :

  • Be a trusted advisor to the leadership team, guiding them on HR trends and insights that impact their success, and advising on strategies and initiatives that will position DataEQ as a preferred employer
  • Have helped each team lead develop and implement a meaningful career development framework for their team
  • Have helped us create and unpack a structured company-wide engagement survey, working with leaders and managers to understand the insights and inform action points
  • Identify and act on trends and opportunities that point to better ways of doing things as we scale
  • Have set up a grad programme to kick-start at the beginning of the university year
  • About you

You're an experienced HR professional and recruiter who has seen how HR functions are implemented and scaled in fast-paced, high-growth environments, either in tech scale up or in a forward-thinking corporate environment, and are now looking to make your own mark in an environment like ours, with the benefits of working remotely.

You're skilled at building trust with both first-time and experienced managers and know how to help them navigate the opportunities and challenges of a management role.

You have a proven track record of interpreting and applying the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies, to people situations as appropriate.

Managers and teammates seek your day-to-day advice and strategic input on bigger initiatives relating to their people. You communicate with warmth and influence, balance objectivity with empathy and logic with creativity, to help us find the right solution for everyone involved.

You aren't afraid to challenge the status quo, can help others navigate ambiguity and always approach challenges mindful of the impact on our company culture, values and teammate morale.

You're excited about getting stuck into day-to-day tasks as we scale and figure out what the future looks like.

    Your skill-set :

  • At least 5 years' experience recruiting for roles like developers and product managers, as well as commercial and operations.
  • You know how to write compelling job descriptions, how to screen active candidates and how to sell our opportunities to passive candidates.

You understand the hiring lifecycle and know which platforms produce the best results

  • At least 3 years' experience and a successful track record of partnering with managers and leaders to ensure they're hiring right, onboarding and developing their people well, compensating fairly, and applying the right thinking and action to the decisions they make for their teams
