Job Title : Vice President Mining

Summary : The responsibilities of the incumbent includes; Development of a strategy and implementation and action plan for the Underground Operations in consultation with the Leadership teams.

Lead the Mining Operations to ensure safe, profitable and cost effective mining of ore reserves, according to an agreed plan and the development of new ore reserves to maintain a profitable production rate in order to ensure the sustainability of the Operation.

The appointee should :

  • Hold a Diploma in Mining Engineering
  • Have a Mine Managers Certificate of Competency
  • Have more than 15 years experience in an Engineering related role, of which 7 should have been at a senior management level or experience in a functional / specialist area
  • Have experience in the relevant current Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations as well as to the workplace principles applicable to SHE
  • Have experience in QMS
  • Have experience in the relevant Mining legislation
  • Have distinguished himself / herself as a specialist in the field
  • Exhibit good insight / knowledge of mining economics, marketing, legal, socio-political and other factors influencing the discipline and industry
  • Be efficient and creative in order to add value to, and achieve both service excellence and business objectives within a dynamic and robust environment
  • Be a self- starter and work with limited supervision to ensure expedited completion of processes
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Pay attention to detail, and have a meticulous and well-organized work method
  • Display strong analytical, problem solving and presentation abilities
  • Be diplomatic yet assertive, with excellent reporting competencies
  • Have unquestionable integrity and work ethic
  • Be a team player, but show resourcefulness and leadership abilities in producing deadline-driven results
  • Have a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and appropriate information systems
  • Be willing to work extended hours, handle high volume work load and travel as required
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Company Occupational Health Centre

  • Key responsibilities include :

  • Development of a strategy and implementation and action plan for the Underground Operations in consultation with the Leadership teams.
  • Lead the Mining Operations to ensure safe, profitable and cost effective mining of ore reserves, according to an agreed plan and the development of new ore reserves to maintain a profitable production rate in order to ensure the sustainability of the Operation.
  • Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the Underground Operations in line with organizational objectives
  • Manage Quality Management System for the Underground Operations
  • Lead and manage high level risk assessments and appropriate action plans for Underground Operations
  • Manage the finances of the Underground Operations to achieve organizational objectives
  • Prepare and present operational budgets for EXCO approval
  • Lead and drive cost saving and cash conservation initiatives
  • Ensure adherence with corporate governance, ethics guidelines and other legal requirements.
  • Participate in Life of Mine planning
  • Lead and drive mining continuous improvement projects and initiatives
  • Reporting on the operating condition on the operations
  • Provide people leadership and management within the Mining discipline
  • Management of key stakeholders and customers
