Use your specialist technical knowledge (medical or financial) to assess risk for business and / or specific products (Underwriter - inclusive of Financial Risk assessment, Age Assessment, Health Risk (Anti Selection Risk) based on size and cover, governance assessment, Quality management all done within the underwriting guidelines and product rules.
Determines, selects and accepts risk and / or liability on behalf of the organisation (either medical or financial). Evaluates proposals and medical / financial evidence against business rules and practices.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesCoachingMay act as mentor to less experienced administrators and underwriters.Risk ManagementUses specialist technical knowledge to assess risk for business and / or specific products.

Exercises discretion in decision making within standardised practice.Role RequirementsAbility to adapt risk management processes to new processing platforms and benefitsUnderstanding of anatomy & physiology at Grade 12 level will be advantageous.
Must have experience in the Financial Service Industry.Attention to detail.Strong planning, organising and time-management skills.
Ability to work under pressure whilst still maintaining a professional image.Well-developed problem solving and decision-making skills.
Strong team player.Well-developed written & verbal communication skills (fully bilingual, English and Afrikaans with an African language if possible).
The successful incumbent will be expected to work overtime and shifts where necessaryMust have reliable transport (when required to work within the Office environment and or work late)Evaluates risk of new applications and changes, amendments or additions to existing policies to minimize risk of underwriting, may confer with physicians in claim area to finalize decision and mitigate cost.
If application approved, it is sent to collect premium and process policy.Performs related tasks / projects as assigned.
Review insurance applications for compliance and adherence.Assess clients' background information and financial status.Liaise with specialists to gather information and opinions.
Weight loss exposures and determine underwriting alternatives.Draw up a quotes for competitive insurance premiums.Desired Experience & QualificationKey skills for insurance underwritersAnalytical skills.
