Amazon EC2 started in Cape Town in as a key AWS service, and now forms a building block for many of the more than services in AWS.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join EC2. You will engage on energising and interesting problems, and define and deliver on goals which require changes across many different teams and services.

You will need a technical background to understand and critique solutions, spot potential problems, and communicate how a problem will be solved at different levels of detail to others.

Our team is very data driven so youll need to use data and metrics to support your narrative. Amazon Leadership principles guide our great collaborative and innovative culture.

Key job responsibilitiesWe are looking for a Technical Program Manager to join the EC2 Managed Infrastructure team. You will primarily engage with internal customers of EC2, colleagues, and stakeholders to drive overall fleet efficiency programs, from defining technology requirements and strategies through to execution, impacting multiple teams and services.

You will need a technical background to understand and critique solutions, spot potential problems, and communicate how a problem will be solved at different levels of detail to others.

We are a data-driven so you will need to use data and metrics to support your narrative.You understand enough of the technical aspects of your product or program to simplify and create efficiencies in solution engineering and complex architectures.

You also use your skills to create predictable and streamlined processes for large, complex programs.This role will involve working across geographies and timezones, so some flexibility may be required.

The right candidate possesses a strong technical background on software or IT infrastructure, effective written and verbal communication, program and project management experience.

High judgement, ability to influence, and delivering results are essential to success in this role.A day in the lifeCommunication is key, both verbal and written.

  • You will be engaging with engineers as well as senior leaders across AWS on a daily basis to deliver multiple large scale projects, facilitate large scale tradeoffs (backed by analyzed data to provide context) and presenting progress, decisions, direction back to your team, stakeholders and senior leadersBASIC QUALIFICATIONSDegree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent working experience5+ years experience leading complex and / or large projects across multiple software development teamsA technical background : you wont be expected to write any code, but do need experience engaging on the details of the solutions which support the projects / products / services that you have deliveredPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAnalytical and quantitative skills;
  • ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and planning.Technical and Business acumen; able to understand and work with business and technology owners.
