The ideal candidate is a public policy expert, passionate about Facebook, who can combine a talent for seeing the potential of technology with the ability to create the opportunity to make the region more connected.

A deeply strategic thinker who can drive results, with a deep knowledge of the political and regulatory dynamics across key markets in the EMEA region (principally Africa, the Middle East & Turkey).

The Director of Public Policy Africa, the Middle East & Turkey will work under the direction of the Vice President of Public Policy EMEA and will become part of the wider EMEA public policy Leadership Team that is dealing with a number of the most interesting public policy challenges of our times, including privacy, safety and security, freedom of expression, internet shutdowns, the impact of the internet on economic growth, and new opportunities for democratic engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate as a key member of the EMEA Leadership Team

Develop and retain a high performing policy team

Lead on developing and ensuring consistent implementation of the principles and values of public policy engagement for Facebook's policy issues across Africa, the Middle East & Turkey

Superior people manager with extensive senior level experience leading diverse teams and as a diversity and inclusion champion

Work closely with internal cross functional partners across multiple teams to ensure effective collaboration, resource allocation and the realization of key strategic outcomes across Africa, the Middle East & Turkey

Work with country and regional leads to build strategic plans for Africa, the Middle East & Turkey, identifying trends across the region and opportunities to scale approaches

Work with country and regional teams to understand, identify and anticipate key policy challenges affecting Facebook across Africa, the Middle East & Turkey, and work with country, regional and cross functional teams to build proactive strategies to handle crisis management

Oversee and manage a significant budget

Provide strategic support, guidance and high-level oversight to country, regional and functional teams in :

Working with political bodies, policymakers and non-governmental organizations on technology policy issues

Building coalitions to help advance and support key policy issues

Representing Facebook in meetings with politicians and policymakers

Communicating Facebook's positions on key policy issues in public presentations to a wide range of audiences both internally and externally

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Keen understanding of political systems and relevant policy and civil society institutions in the Africa, Middle East & Turkey markets

Sound judgement, communication and persuasive skills as well as a creative outlook, perspective and ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment

Experience in policy engagement or development for a multi-national corporation or civil society institution

A keen eye for connecting the unconnected, and extensive experience with relevant policy issues, including internet governance, data privacy, human rights / free expression, taxation, net neutrality, child online protection, etc

Fluency in English, with additional languages a plus

Interest and willingness to travel

Passionate about Facebook and its mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together

A cross-functional team player with the ability to drive and manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously

Deep interest in technology and related policy issues

Experience in people management and overseeing a large budget

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable experience in public policy, MBA or law degree preferred
