Currently we have the opportunity for a dynamic Solutions Project Manager Construction, to join our team in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Philips Health Systems is increasingly involved in large & complex hospital solutions. An emerging trend within these solutions is the requirement to also include related construction works as part of turnkey solutions across Africa.

As a Construction Project Manager you are supporting the market during both the bid as well as the execution phase of these projects with regard to all construction related activities that Philips needs to include in its total offer.

The support to be rendered varies from analyzing customer requirements, advising on building works contractors, supporting in negotiations with these contractors and the ad-

hoc supervising of their activities on-site during project execution.

You will actively engage with the assigned bid team during the bid phase of the project and with the project team during the execution phase of the project.

You will report to the HealthTech Solutions Leader Africa based in Johannesburg

You are responsible for :

  • Acting as an advisor to the bid teams on the building works component that Philips needs to include in its offer;
  • Providing high level cost estimates, time and resources as the project requires and lay down the project methodologies using PMO tools and instruments such as Program Charter, Work Plans, Governance Plan, work packages;
  • Collaborating with equipment planning teams to ensure alignment between construction and installation teams both in bid phase and in execution.
  • Managing the process of identifying building works related contractors across Africa as required;
  • Acting as an advisor during contract negotiations with selected contractors;
  • Establishing, deploying and maintaining a (digital) building works related competence / consultancy domain for all regions across Africa where Philips is actively undertaking projects involving construction activities;
  • Setting up project governance and assigning project roles and responsibilities, monitoring and controlling progress & resources and initiating corrective actions if needed, both internally and externally (constructors, architects, external project teams, etc.);
  • Managing, approving & complying with project-related accounting, procurement procedures including invoicing Purchase Orders, Vendor registration and IT Infrastructure, etc.
  • Supporting Philips strategic initiatives in Healthcare Solutions,
  • Continuously improving project management practice at Philips, to increase efficiency and predictability of project planning and execution
  • Collaborating with other functions (e.g. Procurement, Finance,) to ensure a smooth and seamless project execution
  • Your KPI’s will be :

  • Ensure accurate budgets, resource planning and timelines are provided to bid teams.
  • Deliver projects within agreed scope, timeframe and budget limitations.
  • Accurate and timely project reporting & escalation to drive results.
  • To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience :

  • Minimum bachelor degree in a relevant construction discipline (Project and or Construction Management or relevant accreditation in internationally recognized institution (preferred PMI, APM, Prince II, RICS or similar)
  • 5+ (preferred 10+) years of experience in project management
  • Extensive experience of delivering Project & Construction Management in Africa
  • Experience in delivering healthcare construction projects
  • Solid analytical and planning acumen, experience in managing project financials
  • Ability to successful influence decision makers, always acting with business integrity. Must be able to work within our governance structure and to standardized systems, processes and tools
  • Solid experience of project management software tools MS Project / Primavera
