Purpose :

To provide a comprehensive wellness mobile health service by providing HIV testing and counselling services linked to screening and diagnosing clients for TB and STIs.

Provision of treatment and clinical care to HIV patients and ensure successful linkage to care and adherence, with specific focus on sex workers (SWS).

Provision and management of HIV prevention services to SWs, inclusive of the provision of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Minimum requirements

  • Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • SANC registered as a Professional Nurse Counsellor
  • NIMART certified and experience in ART Management
  • Valid dispensing license
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in HIV counselling and testing in public health services
  • Ability to communicate in Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa or another South African language
  • Intermediate level computer literacy (Excel)
  • Valid code 08 driver's license
  • Key performance areas :

    Coordinate and conduct mobile outreach services and HIV testing services (HTS) in the community and sex work locations (indoor and outdoor)

  • Lead outreach plans to sex work community
  • Ensure data is submitted to Department of Health (DOH) on number of clients seen at sex work locations
  • Mobilise with team to provide Key Population prevention services and distribute IEC material
  • Work with the Peer Educators to mobilise SWs to understand the importance of knowing their HIV status and accessing HIV testing service
  • Provide an enhanced appropriate package of treatment, care and support of clients diagnosed with HIV, TB, STIs and other health related conditions (including the provision of PrEP)

  • Monitor and order monthly stock of medications needed for wellness and HTS programmes
  • Monitor condom and lubricant stock at project sites and arrange proactive distribution by the team
  • Accurate recording of stock
  • Conduct physical examinations and record proper client history
  • Provide ART and PrEP and continuum of care services
  • Provide appropriate syndromic treatment for STIs and other illnesses and provide family planning services
  • Keep record of medication dispensed
  • Provide technical assistance in HIV counselling and recording

  • Train to complete the PI HTS register and monthly report new cases
  • Compile a record on the confirmed clinic the clients will attend and document referral or loss to follow up (LTF) using tools and algorithm
  • Ensure that weekly HIV test kit quality control is done by the HAST Counsellor and recorded in the quality control (QC) file
  • Submit all weekly QC reports to the Programme Quality Assurance Manager on the 2nd of every month
  • Ensure proficiency testing (PT) is conducted and submitted timeously
  • File all reports / results received from NHLS in PT file
  • Appropriate referral of all the necessary health-related conditions needing further management, including ART, psychosocial, substance abuse, gender-based violence, etc.

  • Submit monthly report on the number of new cases
  • Compile and maintain a record on the confirmed clinic the clients will attend
  • Weekly follow-up on referred clients by telephone, home visits or other
  • Supervision

  • Manage the outreach team and their activities
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the team to plan outreach events
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Ensure leave forms, timesheets and job descriptions are completed, signed and submitted for all staff
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for the team
  • Conduct regular monitoring and support site-visits to peer educators
  • Act as a role model to strengthen positive behavior change of sex workers and peer educators
  • Knowledge, skills and competencies

  • Excellent knowledge of HIV, TB and STI prevention approaches and DOH screening guidelines
  • An understanding of the challenges facing sex workers in the health context and an ability to communicate and work well with sex workers in the provision of health services
  • An in-depth understanding and knowledge of legislative requirements, acceptable practices and procedures
