Main job function

The Senior Programme Officer : Concepts and Context contributes to the success of the Organisation by contributing towards designing and delivering Fellows and Lifelong Fellowship programme content.

Providing process facilitation during each module; facilitation of cross-cutting program learning activities and material on context, concepts and thematic content, including advocacy.

Design and deliver materials, sessions and learning activities to build conceptual and context capacities into the site-specific, experience-specific modules, e-Learning and other between-module activities in the Fellows programme, in line with programme pedagogy and methodologies

Work closely and collaborate with the Programmes staff and staff coordinating the Lifelong Fellowship and Stakeholder Relationships aspects, in building stakeholder engagements, partnerships and a catalytic community for health equity.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with research, writing and training experience

Masters or higher qualification in a related field public policy, public health; anthropology; political sociology, adult education) would be preferred.

Experience :

7 - 10 years demonstrated experience in analysing root causes of inequity and communicating and engaging with diverse audiences on ways of analysing inequitable distribution of resources and options for addressing this.

The ability to analyse and conduct adult capacity development on questions of globalization, economic, political and social drivers of health inequity.

Demonstrated ability to analyse public policy proposals in relation to current evidence and implications for equity.

Demonstrated ability to evaluate research findings, extract evidence and use data and stories to shape advocacy messages.

Experience and comfort in collaborating with communities and constituencies of people affected by health and other inequities

Experience in social justice advocacy initiatives to change policy or programmes and political will

A deep and strong understanding of the social, political and economic systems that drive inequity and its relationship to health and inequality

Self-motivated with high energy levels

Strong organisational skills

Strong process facilitation skills

Motivator with strong coaching or counselling or related personal development expertise

Ability to facilitate courageous conversations with individuals, small groups and the cohort on issues of power and privilege, respect and inclusivity

Strong interpersonal relationship and cross - cultural communication skills

Results driven with a focus on continuous improvement

Superb writing skills and the ability to assemble, distil and analyse all necessary information for decision making and presentations

A deep understanding of the root causes of inequity especially race, class and gender in the South African context

Comfortable with diversity and respectful of a wide range of faiths, beliefs and experiences

The ability to, in an environment of cultural diversity, build and sustain a culture that enables critical reflection, transparency, dignity, mutual recognition and support

Proficiency in electronic communications and standard office software

Fluent in written and spoken English. An additional South African language would be an advantage
