The Tax Specialist is responsible for overseeing and supporting all compliance and advisory aspects of Direct and Indirect Taxes and transfer pricing and to provide support to the General Manager Finance and Business Controller and other relevant stakeholders.
The role will also be responsible for supporting the wider business in all areas relating to tax on a day to day basis.
Manage and review all direct and indirect tax compliance (monthly, quarterly and annual) relevant for the Sandvik Group entities.
Prepare and review tax returns including fixed assets review and analysis (South African companies and foreign companies)
Prepare provisional tax calculations and returns (South African companies and foreign companies).
Prepare and review tax pack for year-end submission including deferred tax calculations (South African companies and foreign companies).
Review SARS / Foreign Revenue assessments and objections to assessments.
Prepare monthly VAT consolidations including submissions to SARS.
Liaise with SARS / Foreign Revenue Authorities and internal stakeholders.
Manage SARS e-filing statement of accounts to General Ledger tax accounts (Income Tax + VAT).
Assist in the Group Transfer Pricing Policy compilation including Local and Master File.
Prepare the Group’s Country-by-Country Report.
Maintain a high level of tax risk management.
Maintain a high level of tax compliance.
Advising and consulting with internal stakeholders to provide advice about South African and foreign tax legislation.
Conducts reviews to identify areas of potential non-compliance and incorrect tax treatment.
Manage customs & excise audits and ensure compliance, where applicable.
Conducts Vat reviews to identify areas of potential non-compliance
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Taxation.
Chartered Accountant SA will be an added advantage.
The equivalent of the same in practical experience is also acceptable.
At least five years’ experience in a Corporate tax environment
Solid accounting knowledge and the ability to read and interpret financial statements
Practical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes
Advanced computer skills
Good planning skills and the ability to work under pressure
The candidate must be able to liaise with the various stakeholders in the tax space, including finance employees at all levels and SARS
Good oral and written communication skills are essential
Must be able to work independently and be proactive
A commitment to ongoing professional education is essential
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy required
Candidate must be willing to travel from time to time when required
Willing to work extended hours based on operational requirements
