    We are looking for a Superintendent : Security , to manage the performance of security service providers and ensure full compliance to expected operational standards.

    Monitors changes to security risk / threat and vulnerabilities, recommends mitigations and communicate to service providers changes to ensure realignment.

    The safety and security of all employees and members of the public that enter RBM premises is vital. RBM has a responsibility to protect personnel, assets, proprietary information and its business reputation.

    The security department needs to adhere to requirements of The Mine Health and Safety Act which specifies the need to provide for protection and the safety of employees and other persons at the mines and, to provide for effective monitoring systems and inspections, investigations and enquiries to improve health, safety, security as well as to identify hazards, eliminate, control and minimize the risk to health, safety and security.

    Reporting to the Manager : Security, you will :

  • Ensure Group Security Standards are updated and supported by security operating procedures.
  • In this ever changing risk environment, you will be required to ensure Security Job Hazard Assessments are conducted and address potential risk to officers and that necessary mitigation is assigned accordingly.
  • Continuously review effectiveness of security measures and advise on areas requiring improvements, share observations with Security Manager accordingly.
  • Monitoring VPSHR compliance requires an ongoing evaluation of service provider performance against VPSHR expectations, firearm and ammunition handling and storage, use of force and strength of security operating procedures as control measures.
  • Lead with conducting and manage all investigations on all other instances as and when required and directed by the Security Manager and in accordance with Rio Tinto The Way We Work
  • Provide investigations reports in accordance to establish procedures and protocols, submit progress reports timely for perusal by the Security Manager.
  • Assist Security Manager providing leadership to RBM Fire and Emergency services and play an integral part in ensuring all emergency response plans are updated and current.
  • Continuous liaison with Manager responsible for Fire and Emergency service is critical to ensure emergency services readiness as when required.
  • Monitor quality service assurance by tracking security contract performance using KPIs and available performance measurements tools available.
  • Review service provider work scopes and advise procurement and Manager Security services of areas requiring improvement.
  • Ensure a program is place to audit service provider employee personal files and enforce training and competency requirements as prescribed
  • Integrate the safety agenda with security, conduct induction training to new officers and refresher training to current on matters relating to emergent risks, new hazards, new process or procedure or new security equipment.
  • Conduct monthly SHEQ meetings with officers and share safety learnings, and refresh members on safety requirements and practices.
  • Police service provider safety performance by conducting additional safety inspections on personnel, practices, and vehicles.
  • Participate in Joint Industry Security Committees and contribute towards the development of industry-wide solutions to current security challenges.
  • Develop effective network with professional security associations and members of the private security industry
  • About you

    To succeed in this role, you will have :

    National Diploma in Security Management, Bachelors Degree would be advantageous

    Qualification in Health and Safety leadership will be an added advantage

    Suitable candidate has seven (7) years’ experience of Security Operations at a mining or a petroleum manufacturing plant.

    Five (5) years’ experience in a security leadership position working with security service providers.

    PSIRA accredited manager and has a grade B driver s license.
