Main Purpose :

The role is accountable for establishing, maintaining, evolving and implementing strategic retirements and group insurance consulting, including best advice frameworks.

This role is instrumental in enabling the retirements consulting teams to deliver best advice that improves client outcomes.

Division / Department :

Investments, Product and Enablement : Financial Well-being Strategy & Applied Research, Consulting Strategy & Academy.

Formal Qualifications :

Relevant graduate degree and post graduate qualifications, with preference to Actuarial Science, Economics and Finance. Preference may be given to : Actuarial Fellow, Certified Financial Planner (CFP) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualifications.

FAIS requirement : Representative in an advice-giving capacity

Required Experience :

10 years in financial services and the requisite consulting and advisory experience in employee benefits.

Experience in :

  • Retirement fund and group insurance consulting
  • Developing and implementing technical consulting frameworks
  • Successful execution of strategic objectives
  • Reporting structure :

    Reports to Head : Corporate Consulting Strategy.

    Level Summary :

  • Position is at senior technical specialist level, also operating at an executive level, to ensure the relevant gravitas and influence.
  • Position requires a degree and at least 10 years’ experience in financial services and the requisite consulting and advisory experience in retirements and group insurance
  • Relevant graduate degree and post graduate qualification
  • Relevant professional designation, e.g. CFP, CFA, FIA, FASSA is required
  • Scope :

  • Establishing, maintaining, evolving and implementing strategic retirements and group insurance consulting, including best advice frameworks
  • Creating awareness of AF’s retirements and group insurance consulting best advice views with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the retirements consulting teams to deliver best advice that improve client outcomes
  • Continuous learning and keeping abreast of corporate and employee benefit matters
  • Effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Implementation of strategic retirements and group insurance consulting and best advice
  • Get sign-off from Head of the relevant business unit on achievement of strategic goals and objectives
  • Responsibility :

  • Provide technical advice in the development of products, service and tools in conjunction with the consulting areas
  • Provide strategic input into consulting teams, in-line with industry developments
  • Develop and implement the retirements and group insurance consulting advice framework, including effective deployment and embedding of the framework in the consulting distribution network
  • Formulate and enable implementation of retirements and group insurance consulting best advice framework with consultants and ensure alignment with the individual consulting advice frameworks where relevant

  • 1. Develop, maintain, evolve and implement strategic retirements and group insurance consulting, including best advice frameworks :

  • Ensure retirements and group insurance consulting strategy is aligned to the AF value proposition and provide input into consulting value propositions
  • Develop best advice views
  • Ensure retirements and group insurance consulting strategy is aligned to the AF value proposition and provide input into consulting value propositions
  • Develop best advice views
  • Present at internal forums to create awareness of AF’s best advice
  • Ensure alignment of retirements and group insurance consulting best practice to researched thought leadership, legal and regulatory requirements as well as industry best practice
  • Ensure that retirements and group insurance consulting strategy and best advice views are credible, implementable, and aligned to deliver a consistent client experience incorporating high quality advice, which improves client outcomes
  • Maintain and evolve the template agenda for retirements clients and inform implementation thereof with consultants
  • Ensure feedback from key stakeholders are considered and inform the best advice views where appropriate
  • Clearly defined advisory frameworks and templates and inform implementation thereof with consultants
  • Develop and / or source material for consultants on topical retirements and group insurance consulting matters
  • Ensure AF’s retirements and group insurance consulting strategy and best advice views align with TCF
  • 2. Provide input into industry bodies and support and build-on AF’s media and industry presence :

  • Writing responses to or providing guidance on submissions to industry bodies and the regulator relating to changing policies or legislation affecting retirements and group insurance matters
  • Formulating views on how advice to clients, and possibly solutions, needs to evolve based on changing policies or legislation
  • Writing articles and client notes
  • Reviewing articles and client notes for technical accuracy
  • Participate in radio and TV interviews
  • Present at client and industry events
  • Write content and produce presentation slides for client events
  • Present to clients, on specific matters, where required
  • 3. Business ownership of consulting tools :

  • Take business ownership of consulting tools which contain advisory elements and collaborate with the product owners of the consulting tools as and when changes are required and at least annually for a review
  • Inform the development and enhancement of consulting tools
  • Ensure consulting tools are aligned with and incorporate best practice and are updated for legislative or regulatory changes
  • 4. Leadership, management and TCF :

  • Develop and support young talent in the team
