Job Purpose :
The Medical Director will provide technical, medical and scientific leadership for the product portfolio in South Africa.
Will be an integral member of the Operations & Partnership organization based in Africa and will work closely with the operations director, regional execution leads, product manager, and global medical affairs leaders within teams to translate global medical affairs strategies into executable regional and country level medical affairs plans.
Will lead a team of medical scientific liaisons to manage evidence generation and dissemination, medical professional education and scientific support.
Main Duties and responsibilities :
Translate global medical affairs strategy and plans for products in the product portfolio into regional and country level plans.
Provide input into medical affairs strategies to ensure integrated planning that support a differentiated Target Product Profile and compelling value proposition.
Oversee the execution and financial management of all regional medical education activities including product / disease area support, medical symposia and congress activities.
Collaborate closely with other medical affairs professionals in regional or local businesses, or within partner organizations.
Lead local medical affairs research support.
Review and approve local medical affairs evidence dissemination activities.
Approve medical content of product literature.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with the external scientific community (KOLs, HCPs, Scientific Communities, Patient Advocacy groups, etc.
and key internal stakeholders across Africa.
Serve as the local medical expert for liaison with medical and scientific professionals in the region.
Ensure all local medical activities follow compliance principles.
Education & Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of a MB Bch degree.
A strong understanding of medical affairs responsibilities in evidence generation and dissemination, and lifecycle management is required.
A demonstrated track record of success within Medical Affairs and / or clinical R&D required.
Experience in multiple markets, proven ability to partner cross culturally / regionally is preferred as well as in-depth knowledge of study methodology, data reviews and analysis.
Strong experience in global health, infectious diseases and 7 yrs.+ experience in relevant roles within the healthcare industry.
Proven ability to act as a medical spokesperson with strong communication skills for external audiences is required.
Experience developing and managing strategic relationships with medical experts / opinion leaders.
Ability to travel up to 60-70%, both domestic and international, as this is a customer facing position.
