The organisation operates in a highly regulated and competitive environment. A key responsibility is of the role is setting strategy to ensure overall compliance with all data protection legislation in the African markets that Experian operates in.

The General Counsel provides collaborative strategic legal advice on all aspects of operational and strategic issues, covering governance, corporate and institutional legal matters.

The successful incumbent will lead and ensure the efficient and effective management of the Legal and Data Privacy team.

The General Counsel works closely with other senior executives to ensure effective communication and information flow that facilitates smooth and predictable decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Admitted Attorney
  • 10 years post articles experience
  • Chartered Company Secretary with a CSSA qualification (desirable)
  • A minimum of 5 years regulatory experience
  • Experience within the Credit Industry and cross border legal functioning
  • Experience in NCA, POPIA, PAIA, CBA, Companies’ Act and data privacy legislation
  • Experience in M&A transactions 5 years
  • Experience in working in a matrix organisation
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role
