Understanding of Virtualization and the ability to manage virtual machines.

Understand enterprise monitoring tools and management frameworks

Experience with professional change management processes and procedures.

Understanding and ability to work within a highly available environment, including but not limited to financial, government, and medical landscapes.

Familiarity with open source tools, bug tracking, resolution, and routine maintenance with security updates to alleviate potential exploits.

Knowledge and the ability to perform software installations / patching of operating systems.

Ability to perform system and file recoveries using the company standard backup solution.

Required Background :

More than 8+ years of previous professional system administration experience.

Desirable :

Degree in related field or equivalent experience.

Certifications in related field, this could also include various application and / or database certifications.

Examples :

VMware Certified Professional

Red Hat Certified Engineer

Solaris Certified System Administrator

AIX Certified Administrator

JBOSS Certification

Appropriate Responsibilities :

Act as a mentor to all other System and Jr. System administrators in and out of their own team.

Establishes / recommends policies and procedures for system use and services.
