3PL Management

The 3PL Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing the long term successful relationship between third party logistics partners while ensuring continuous operational improvements through teamwork and the use of data driven key performance metrics.

This position will also be the responsible liaison to ensure that timely, accurate and clear communications occur between both parties electronically, in-writing and verbally.


  • Be the main point of contact between S+N and its 3PL
  • Work productively and collaboratively with client's 3PL operator(s) with the purpose of supporting the 3PL to meet and / or exceed specific and pre-defined performance indicators.
  • Spearhead and own the direct engagement with the 3PL of service level agreements, and distribution and fulfilment KPI’s.
  • Evaluate and lead automation and system improvements across all channels of the Logistics function
  • Evaluate emerging business needs and act to address near-term, and long-term, opportunities to improve service, reduce costs across the logistics network.
  • Effectively communicate key operational information to leadership team. Deliver engaging, informative and well organized presentations internally and externally
  • Responsible for overseeing the daily performance of the 3PL team including but not limited to : organizing, directing and training the 3PL(where applicable).
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with internal warehouse team and 3PL on a daily basis providing both strategic and tactical direction, including forecasted order / unit volumes.
  • Assist in the development, refinement, validation and completions of all warehouse projects and ensure they are completed on time and on budget
  • Ensure that the 3PL monthly billings are accurate and in line with contractual agreements. Take immediate action when inaccuracies are identified.
  • Work closely with the Customer Services team to identify and resolve issues within the fulfilment network as reported by our customers.
  • Provide analysis of errors / issues by type and owner and create action plans to minimize / eliminate waste.

  • Responsible for reverse logistics processes (returns from customer, returns to supplier)
  • Work closely with the Product Managers and Supply Chain teams on new product launch planning and execution requirements for distribution.
  • Strategic Supply Chain Development

  • Develop the goals, strategies & key measures for the supply chain function that delivers the business goals, ensuring that the resultant Projects and plans cascades to all areas of the supply chain organisation.
  • Work with all members of the supply chain leadership team to manage the strategic direction, financial shape and operational delivery for the south African supply chain department.
  • Ensure that the operational team supports growth initiatives through appropriate investments in technology and capability, as well as cost / working capital reduction initiatives and projects initatives .
  • Manage fixed and variable cost components related to supply chain cost / investments, ensuring budgeted targets are maintained and improved upon.
  • Key deliverables are Growth, Customer Service, Working Capital, Budget management, Employee Engagement, Investments, Cross Functional Projects, S&OP, LEAN.
  • Transformation & Strategic Procurement

  • Implement a specific Procurement strategy to grow the supplier base to include more 51% black-owned enterprises and to support current suppliers in becoming BEE compliant
  • Source, implement and manage new vendors, new innovation and substitute products, to deliver best servce within Supply chain in South Africa.
  • Drive scale and efficiencies through portfolio / vendor consolidation. 3PL management and Vendor checking
  • Establish and maintain contractual agreements, where appropriate, with suppliers in order to secure volumes and stabilise price levels for time periods appropriate given the prevailing market conditions.
  • Working with the Supply Chain Manager to deploy lean strategy across all parts of the Africa Region.
  • Collaborate with the Supply chain leads and process owners to identify and drive potential functional process improvements.
  • Manage 3PL or Self-managed Distribution centers transformation projects in the Africa region.
  • Key liaison for all Quality assurance programs in the Africa region.
  • Lead the development of the Distribution footprint strategy for the region and oversee its implementation
  • Collaborate with Supply chain management in implementing lean principles as well as instilling a lean culture in the Supply chain function.
  • Develop and deploy standardized Supply Chain KPI’s and their measurements.
  • Coordinate the standardization of Lean / Six Sigma (or Similar) Tools and structure in the region in line with the Global deployment.
  • Create and develop new financial models, build new business cases, and provide ongoing assessment of risk and returns relating to new and existing opportunities.
  • Manage operational relationships with stakeholders responsible for the hosting and collation of data to ensure relevant information is accessible to all levels of the business in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Act as the project manager and lead a number of key projects for the business
  • 5. Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Education
  • Matric, plus Diploma in Supply Chain Management

    Fully computer literate

  • Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of related supply chain management experience
  • Must understands integrated supply chain and logistic concepts
  • Medical devices experience needed.
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Excellent analytical abilities
  • Experience in leading change initiatives within an organization
  • Excellent team-building and project management skills
  • Competencies required (e.g. leadership skills, attention to detail, managing conflict, team work)
