SUMMARY Work involves providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care to patients in a hospital, nursing home or clinic.
Work requires the employee to perform duties such as taking and recording vital signs, dressing wounds and administering specific medications orally and by injections.
The work is performed under the supervision of a professional nurse and is reviewed through reports, meetings and results obtained.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES : Assists physicians, nurses and other medical personnel with various procedures such as lumbar punctures and biopsies.
assembles new patient and discharge charts. Reviews charts; updates information and documents medications, diets, etc.; takes and record pulse, height, weight respiration and blood pressure.
collects sputum, urine and draws blood samples for laboratory testing; assists in obtaining cultures and smears for laboratory.
measures and records gastric and urine drainage; may perform designated laboratory test in the clinics. Performs techniques requiring surgical asepsis such as suctioning, sterile dressings, and wound irrigations.
cleans and disinfects instruments after use and assists in maintaining supplies as needed for patient care activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License by the Alabama Board of Nursing (Note : Applicants licensed in states other than Alabama must obtain an Alabama license within 90 days of employment).

Knowledge of nursing procedures of care for patients / residents with varying medical conditions (e.g., Alzheimer's, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
Knowledge of the proper use of medical equipment (EKG, IV, etc.). Knowledge of Medical / Clinical Laboratory Science Knowledge of Medical Documentation Procedures.
Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines. Knowledge of medical terminology and vocabulary for accurately describing the human body and associated components, conditions, and processes in a science-based manner.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work is performed primarily within medical or healthcare facilities. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
Work also involves use of medical tools and equipment necessary for the care and / or diagnosis of healthcare patients. Work may involve exposure to contagious or infectious diseases (e.
g., bodily fluids and airborne agents at hospitals and jails, lice, scabies, TB's, HIV / AIDS), bio-hazardous materials and bodily fluids.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Job primarily involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing with the occasional involvement of moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, stooping, or carrying.
May involve occasional lifting of items, or objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
