Senior Casualty Underwriter

  • Acquire and develop customized solutions transactions in line with strategy
  • Analyze risks and exposures for the purpose of underwriting, pricing and accumulation control
  • Support underwriters in transacting customized solutions business taking accountability for structuring and pricing
  • Cultivate relationships with cedants and brokers for business development purposes and exploit new business potential through these sources
  • Propose strategies and define target clients / programs for business under jobholder’s responsibility
  • Contribute to developing / maintaining underwriting expertise
  • Conduct market and portfolio analysis, and prepare reports
  • Negotiate with clients on product-related topics and other class-specific issues in liaison with client management
  • Demonstrate opinion leadership on selected class-specific topics (e.g. internal and external training sessions, seminars, workshops, specialist presentations, publications, interviews)
  • Qualifications, experience and skills

  • University B-degree in law and / or risk management and / or mathematics / statistics / economics and / or suitable progress towards FIISA or FCII
  • 7+ years’ experience as a pricing actuary and / or reinsurance underwriter casualty treaty
  • Advanced knowledge in liability products and / or pricing of non-standard reinsurance solutions
  • Strong team player with strong analytical skills
  • Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and willingness to share knowledge within the team
  • High level of commitment and ability to work under pressure
  • Solution-oriented with a proactive, efficient and independent work style
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English
  • Additional language skills is an advantage.
  • Property Treaty Underwriter

    R pa neg.

  • To maintain a centre of technical competence in respect of all property treaty underwriting aspects with respect to allocated clients and markets.
  • Assessing and writing treaty offers in accordance with the underwriting guidelines, internal processes and authorities.
  • Cooperating with client management to ensure that optimal service levels to clients are maintained including meeting clients and / or negotiating treaty terms and conditions.
  • Developing, executing and monitoring client strategies for the property treaty line of business strategies.
  • Providing technical guidance and leadership to clients through training, coaching, preparation of handbooks etc.
  • To prepare / receive underwriting referrals for consideration, approval and / or onward transmission to management.
  • Conduct internal reviews of underwriting quality and make recommendations.
  • Actively contribute to ensure opinion leadership within the Property Arena.
  • Qualifications, experience and skills

  • Minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in reinsurance
  • Property fire underwriting knowledge will be an advantage
  • Capabilities and passion to actively conduct and solicit business opportunities.
  • Good IT and analytical skills.
  • Good communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
