Job Description :

We are looking for a Discovery Manager Southern Africa , which involves :

  • Leadership of a high-performance, innovative team focused on discovering superior value mineral resources by :
  • Providing excellent organisational and technical leadership to enable a highly collaborative and technically innovative team focused on achieving breakthrough discovery;
  • Supporting and co-leading the identification and evaluation of new frontier districts with potential for high-value mineral discoveries;
  • Ensuring a strong focus on safety, the environment and the communities where we work;
  • Forming and cultivating productive links with prospective and current joint venture partners;
  • Developing and actively managing project portfolio, ensure alignment with and execution of the Group Discovery strategy;
  • Ensuring an innovative, strong technical team is in place with correct capability and skills. Instill commitment, clear direction, role clarity and responsibility within the Discovery team to achieve high performance.
  • Qualifications :

    Formal Qualifications

  • Essential : Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent in Geosciences
  • Desirable : A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctorate degree of equivalent) in relevant Geoscience discipline (e.
  • g. economic geology, mineral economics)

    Role-specific knowledge / Requirements

  • A demonstrated thought leader and considered an external expert in the discipline / field of mineral exploration with a specific focus on polymetallic and sediment hosted copper deposits.
  • Track record of leading project and target generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery within greenfields and near-asset exploration;
  • Experience in mining and mineral resources;
  • Experience in managing community and government relations issues, including possible experience with community development programs;
  • Knowledge and experience of general management practices in an applied technical environment; e.g. finance (budget, accounting, governance), SHE (systems management and application, practical procedures, leadership), people management;
  • A significant portion of the role will be managing multiple large land position discovery activities in Angola, and as such experience within Africa in a similar role will be advantageous;
  • English full proficiency;
  • Portuguese is an advantage;
  • Travel to remote exploration sites where will be required, including international travel.
