Purpose of the position : Management of research and research capacity development within the research entity Visual narratives and creative outputs (ViNCo) through interdisciplinary and practice-

led research; as well as supervision of postgraduate students and supporting staff to develop supervision capacity; conducting practice-

led research and producing research and creative outputs; occasional teaching responsibilities in Graphic Design and / or History of Art at undergraduate and honours level if needed.

Minimum Requirements...

  • A PhD in History of Art or Visual Culture
  • Expert knowledge of practice-led research
  • Expert knowledge of History of Art and Graphic Design
  • Three- five years’ research management experience (HOD / Director level)
  • Postgraduate supervision experience (minimum of 3 PhD students completed and 3 MA students completed)
  • Other competency requirements :

  • Expert knowledge of practice-led research
  • Expert knowledge of analyzing and interpretation of works of art
  • Expert knowledge of interdisciplinary methodological approaches to history of Art and Graphic Design
  • Proven experience in research management groups
  • Proven experience in academic management related to writing of curricula and managing the application of approval processes for qualifications (with a focus on postgraduate qualifications) by required internal and national authorities
  • Knowledge in curatorial practices and popular culture
  • Behavioral competencies

  • Responsibilities :

  • Sustainability and progressive expansion of a research culture within ViNCo via meetings, colloquia, seminars, workshops and collaboration between colleagues on projects and community service.
  • Management of research projects within practice-led research and participating in the research projects.
  • To be able to supervise postgraduate students within practice-led research based projects and Master- and PhD studies;
  • to develop staff to supervise postgraduate students within practice-led research based MA and PhD studies and projects.

  • Management of publications of articles in accredited journals form postgraduate studies and research projects; producing creative research outputs.
  • Sustainability of collaboration with UGhent, Belgium with regard to possible exchange of staff and postgraduate students as well as collaboration on future projects;
  • to deliver lectures & workshops on Practice led Research (PLR). Collaboration between MASARA and ViNCo and other research entities.

  • Management and co-ordination of workshops is writing of articles and supervision of postgraduate students in ViNCo.
  • Increasing the number of post-doctoral fellows within the field of Art History and practice-led research.
  • Managing and teaching responsibilities for identified undergraduate and honours subjects, including preparation, admin and assessments if needed.
