A vacancy exists for a sessional (locum) Clinical Psychologist at the Entabeni Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. Reporting to the Therapy Services Coordinator, the successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, offering quality services to rehab clients.
Life Entabeni Rehab is part of an expanding network of rehabilitation units within Life Healthcare. Critical Outputs Program development, treatment and evaluation of patients admitted to the unit.
Assessment and establishing of patients’ therapy goals as per set rehabilitation clinical standards for a Clinical Psychologist and management of cognitive and neuro-psychological problems.
Counselling and education of patients and their families about the patients’ conditions Professional therapy service implementation in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
Ensure delivery and maintenance of appropriate intensive Psychology programs as per patients’ individual needs Co-ordination of speech therapy within an interdisciplinary team of rehab professionals Ensuring compliance to the clinical, quality, efficiency and operational requirements Co-ordination of family and patient speech therapy educational programs and appropriate education on the patient’s condition.
Function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team member, to meet the requirements of quality patient care. Participation in weekly team and family meetings and discharge planning meetings as needed Active participation in continuing professional development activities of the unit.
Building good relationships with the team i.e. nurses, doctors, therapists and other Understanding of the private healthcare industry, and relevant legislation, challenges and role players Requirements Applicants need to have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and be currently registered with the HPCSA.
Experience in treating children and adults with neurological disorders will be an advantage. Hospital experience will be an advantage It is essential to have an understanding of stroke, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.
