Sanlam Developing Markets (SDM) (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanlam Life Limited) is one of the top financial services providers in the South African entry-level and emerging middle market.

It aims to understand the unique requirements of clients and offers a wide range of simple and affordable financial solutions that cover needs such as funeral insurance, savings for education, life cover and personal accident plans.

In terms of the Sanlam Group Governance Policy, SDM is managed by the SA Retail Mass cluster, which is part of the Sanlam Life and Savings cluster within the Sanlam Group.

There are four businesses within the SA Retail Mass cluster, namely; Group Benefits, Individual Life, Safrican Insurance and African Rainbow Life.

What will you do? We are looking for an experienced IT Executive to oversee the use of IT in Sanlam Retail Mass Market (RMM).

You will be required to identify and drive the IT strategy for Sanlam RMM within the governance required of both Sanlam RMM and the Sanlam Group at a level of risk that is in line with the stated risk appetite.

  • Risk management and assessment
  • Promote and align business goals and IT programmes and priorities
  • Using technology to drive efficiency and measure delivery
  • Managing IT budget
  • Advise on and lead system integration for business clients
  • Develop and implement an automation strategy and tools
  • Design, implement and maintain the underlying infrastructure / technology and network architecture to enable and support the information solutions covering the entire infrastructure
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to maximize performance, security & efficiency and propose the implementation of such technologies where applicable
  • Understanding Application Integration technologies and their impact on company’s infrastructure architecture
  • Possess abundant soft skills, such as analytical thinking, verbal / written communication and leadership
  • Resolve escalated operational issues
  • Provide input into business strategy Qualification & experience
  • BSc in Computer Science or other relevant qualifications
  • 10 years’ experience in a Senior IT Management role
  • Completed Prince or similar project management programme
  • Solid IT background and consistently kept up to date with advancements in the field
  • Experience working in a Retail and Distribution environment
  • Experience building business cases
  • Strong management experience
  • Experience managing system integrators
  • Budgets and forecasting
  • Managing teams
  • Managing large projects from end to end
  • Experience in Policy Administration Systems and optimisation thereof
  • Experience in financial services industry Knowledge and skills
  • Understanding of IT Governance and King IV requirements
  • Project management skills / understand Agile working methodologies and principals
  • Knowledge of software development best practices
  • Basic understanding of process and business analysis and testing
  • Understanding of enterprise and solutions architecture
  • Understanding of BI, big data, AI and robotics and how it relates to business
