POSITION FOR AN INSURANCE ACCOUNTANT

Accounting degree or similar.
â€¢ Work experience in an equivalent accounting role.
â€¢ Insurance industry experience.
â€¢ Work references.
â€¢ Ability to work in a team.
â€¢ Energetic and resilient.
â€¢ Good communication and interpersonal skills.
â€¢ Good understanding and ability to apply knowledge of accounting, income tax and Value Added Tax (â€œVATâ€ ).
â€¢ VAT with insurance accounting being an advantage.
â€¢ Key responsibilities
â€¢ Process underwriting results per client onto the general ledger including premium, reinsurance premium, claims, recoveries, commissions and fees.
â€¢ Process reserves per client onto the general ledger i.e. outstanding claims, Incurred But Not Reported (â€œIBNRâ€ ), unearned premium reserve as well as corresponding reinsurance portions.
â€¢ Process income tax per client onto the general ledger.
â€¢ Process cashbook transactions and any other required journal entries per client onto the general ledger.
â€¢ Prepare Balance Sheet reconciliations per client.
â€¢ Prepare client financial statements and client policy statements and any other financial reports as required.
â€¢ Collection of premium and reinsurance debtors.
â€¢ Pay reinsurers and submit reinsurance bordereaux.
â€¢ Pay administrators and other creditors associated with the client portfolio.
â€¢ Respond to client queries and attend client meetings when required.
â€¢ Gathering and handling of information.
