A reputable consulting firm is currently looking for an Assistant Resident Engineer to commence duties in their East London office as soon as possible.
Minimum requirements are a National Diploma in Civil Engineering coupled with 4 - 5 years’ experience. Suitable candidates will have relevant technical experience, contract administration experience, excellent communication skills, sound engineering judgement, drivers license and their own transport.
Responsibilities will include : Monitoring the contractors progress of projects on site; referring significant queries on design / engineering matters to the Resident Engineer, ensuring that design specs / other problems that may have relevance to future designs are brought to the attention of the Resident Engineer;
applying relevant & applicable clauses of General Conditions of Contract to the project; liaising with the Contractors Site Agent with regard to all aspects of the work;
assisting the RE in ensuring that the Contractor and his staff understand the obligations under the OHS & Road Traffic Acts;
assist the RE with Environmental Management of the Contractors work; assisting the RE in communicating with the public via the Community Liaison Officer & reporting to the Engineer when necessary;
assisting the RE in liaising with the relevant service providers to co-ordinate the alteration / re-location of their services;
assisting the RE in attending and or chairing formal site meetings with the Contractor and Client.
