Head of Legal

Responsibilities and work outputs include but not limited to :

  • Develop and drive the implementation of a legal strategy and framework in line with business
  • strategic objectives that ensures stakeholders receive optimal legal support.

  • Communicate and distil best practice legal concepts into business, ensuring that lessons learned
  • are communicated both within and outside the legal community.

  • Engage with stakeholders to analyse legal and compliance requirements and provide
  • stakeholders with concise, accurate, timely legal advice and legally sound solutions to business

  • Identify opportunities to develop new processes and practices to strengthen the quality and
  • consistency of legal and compliance opinions.

  • Develop and maintain a platform / repository for sharing legal opinions, agreements, and
  • information to support the consistency and quality of these documents / information within the

    various teams and across the group.

    Experience and Qualifications :

  • Relevant Legal degree (B Proc or LLB)
  • Masters in Commercial or Insurance Law (LLM) (will be advantageous).
  • Admitted attorney or advocate in South Africa.
  • Knowledge of legislation that impacts the Financial Services Industry (e.g. Long and Short Term
  • Insurance Acts, Financial Intelligence Centre Act, Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act;
  • Regulatory Authority Notices and Directives, etc.)

  • Excellent business-writing skills.
