To contribute to the development and maintenance of the Sustainability, Social, Environmental & Economic (SEE) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies.
To drive and implement the SEE & ESG strategies through projects and initiatives across the Group. Provide specialist advice to all Client Segments / Solutions / Corporate Functions across the Group regarding SEE & ESG.
Develop the metrics for the SB Group to measure and monitor the success and impact of Sustainability projects.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Risk, Regulatory, Prudential & Compliance
Participate in effective governance structures in order to meet the requirements imposed by governmental bodies, regulators, industry mandates or internal policies.
Lead the engagements with external auditors pertaining to sustainable projects and initiatives.
Present and influence senior and executive stakeholders involved in oversight committees and forums relevant to Sustainable Development, Social, Environmental and Economic (SEE) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), in order to monitor the implementation of the framework.
Provide specialist advise on best practice processes and systems for business areas across the Standard Bank Group.
Effectively monitor and control adherence, conformance and compliance to all Sustainability policies and standards as per the approved Risk Management Toolbox in order to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory laws.
Stay abreast of relevant trends and typologies in order to utilise this information to inform the SEE and ESG approach, to create awareness around new modus operandi through effective change management and to implement leading practices.
Provide specialised advice and regular communication, to executives and senior leaders on all minimum standards, strategies, projects, plans, initiatives, reporting and other relevant activities.
Monitor and control to processes and activities to ensure all business areas effectively comply with the required internal standards and legislative requirements as it pertains to Sustainability, Social, Environmental and Economic (SEE) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).
Deliver projects within budget to ensure successful delivery on strategic objectives and sound financial control.
Meet preferential procurement targets to realise the aspirations of the Bank.
Identify opportunities to reduce costs.
Build, develop and maintain relationships with the key internal and external ESG and SEE stakeholders.
Scrutinise, review and validate the data received from various sources across the Standard Bank Group to ensure integrity and data accuracy for the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report.
Provide specialist input to the definition and maintenance of ESG and SEE data for impact measurement.
Coordinate and collect data across the Standard Bank Group for compilation of annual external reports, PRB, TCFD report, sustainability & ESG ratings and indices.
Advise on the collection, capturing and maintenance of data to ensure the information is reliable and enable effectively guide critical business decisions.
Prepare and provide insights on various sources of data across the Standard Bank Group containing the non-financial data required for the external reporting on Sustainable Development projects and initiatives.
Deliver holistically on all the regulatory and internal reporting requirements. Produce aggregated and reliable Sustainable Development reports and formulate pertinent observations to influence senior and executive leaders on sustainability and enable the effectiveness of critical business decisions and reporting.
Partner with the digital team in order to build digital platforms and reporting and optimise digital solutions aligned to leading practices.
Develop the metrics required for the Standard Bank Group to measure the implementation of all Social, Environmental and Economic (SEE) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) projects and initiatives.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance Functional Framework - covering strategy, policy, process, procedures, standards, guidelines, training, objectives, metrics and governance - to ensure consistency of implementation and the alignment to regulatory and legislative requirements.
Provide improvement inputs into the Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach to ensure that sufficient measures are in place to deliver sustainable banking projects as per the strategic aspirations of the Bank.
Lead and drive the Sustainability projects across the Group to ensure the Sustainable Development Goals of the Standard Bank Group are realised.
Remain proficient and knowledgeable of best practice in the specialist field of sustainable development and responsible banking, and provide the necessary recommendations for adaptation and improvement.
Keep abreast of and analyse relevant sustainability developments, taking into account all the different jurisdictions in which the Group operates, in order to inform the Sustainable Development Functional Framework, to understand the implications for the organisation and to deliver expert advice to the Business Lines and Corporate Functions.
Provide input and support to the Head, Group Corporate Citizenship in preparing formal responses on behalf of Standard Bank Group to requests from Regulators and Line Managers.
Provide specialist advice for the Standard Bank submissions for various sustainability memberships, such as Dow Jones and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
Provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders and clients (Trusted Adviser) regarding Sustainability and responsible banking.
Where necessary provide training to targeted business areas or internally. Engage in the appropriate forums and workshops to convey relevant matters to wider audiences when required.
Contribute to the design and the dispensing of training and awareness initiatives pertaining to the Environmental, Social and Governance Framework.
Provide input and support to the Executive, Group Corporate Citizenship, Societal Impact to ensure high quality reporting and assurance to the relevant Boards, Executive Management, Audit Committees, the Regulator and other relevant forums.
Leverage specialist knowledge to enable the development, maintenance and implementation of the relevant sustainable development frameworks reputational damage.
Design, implement and maintain a reporting system that ensures that efficient, high quality and consistent reporting is delivered as required to the relevant committees, forums and regulators.
Lead the development and compilation of the Sustainability Report to Society and the Integrated Report.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
Minimum Qualifications - First Degree in Environmental Sciences
Other Minimum Qualifications, certifications or professional memberships :
A Bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences, Governance, Sustainability, or Corporate Social Responsibility is a minimum requirement for this role.
Project Management certification would be required for this role as the role focuses on the implementation of Sustainability projects and the reporting of Sustainability Development and responsible banking.
8-10 years experience in Risk Management - Experience Description - The role requires a specialist in the relatively new field of Sustainability, Social, Environmental and Economic (SEE) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).
Proven track record of being a specialist in the field and providing expert advice and guidance to senior leaders would be required.
The job does not require Risk Management experience, however Sustainability reporting, ESG reporting, exposure to E&S Risk Management and transaction screening, exposure to TCFD and climate reporting
